The seventeen former French prime minister is still alive and entitled to life benefits worth budgeting over five million euros per year.
New French Prime Minister Sebastien Lekorni announced the planned cancellation of life benefits for former prime ministers of the country. The changes will enter January 1, 2026, which Lekornny himself said on Social Network X.
According to him, these benefits are unacceptable, as the temporary status of the Prime Minister should not mean life privileges.
“The benefits of life for former government officials have been canceled from January 1, 2026. […] It is unimaginable that they use life benefits because of temporary status, “the report said.
Remember, on September 9, President Emmanuel Macron appointed Lekornny Prime Minister after a votum who could not be trusted in his predecessor, Francois Bayru. Bayru lost Parliament’s support for proposal to reduce the state budget of 44 billion euros. In his opening speech, the new prime minister promised cardinal changes to overcome the political crisis and develop the government with sufficient support for budget adoption.
To date, former French Ministers of France have the right to long -lived car use with the driver and police protection. The total cost for these privileges is 4.3 million euros per year: 1.5 million euros for transportation and 2.8 million euros for safety. According to new policies, police security will only be given three years and extend in case there is a real threat. Transportation privileges are limited by ten years.
The seventeen former French prime minister is still alive and entitled to these benefits. At the same time, three of them, according to Le Monde, along with Laurent Fabius, Jean Castex and Eduar Philip, no longer use privileges due to occupying other states or elected posts.
Lekorny emphasized that the French people could not deal with cuts and reforms, if the state governing itself did not show readiness for changes. He noted that the absence of such steps could cause powerless power.
