Maldives officially applied for membership in the International Atomic Energy Agency in November 2024.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reports that September 15 has strengthened the Maldives.
After announcing the news, Salma Rashid, a permanent Maldives representative at the UN Office in Geneva, spoke to participants at the IAEA general conference, Ukrinform reports.
He emphasized general challenges that small states of the island’s development are faced, in particular climate change and ecosy system, and emphasizes the importance of international cooperation to overcome problems.
Rashid also noted that joining the IAEA will open for opportunities in Maldives to strengthen stability through technical support in health care areas, food security and potential increases. According to him, it will allow the country to satisfy the national needs of development, at the same time contributing to global development.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives has confirmed that the Magate General Conference unanimously approved the island state application to enter the next -69th session, which took place from September 15 to 19 in Vienna.
It was noted that the Maldives officially applied for membership in the IAEA in November 2024. The main purpose of acquiring membership included a search for support to expand access to advanced cancer treatment methods using nuclear and radiation drugs, as well as the use of technologies to promote the maintenance.
Remember, according to the media, Iran’s authorities want to continue working with IAEA “in a new form.”
