For years, the European Union has gradually turned off Russian fossil fuel, as US President Donald Trump demanded. European Commission’s press secretary Paul Pigno said on Monday, September 15.
“The gradual abandonment of the Russian fossil fuel is what we have been doing and actively doing for years, from the beginning of the war, with a very clear road map. Now we also have a legislative proposal to stop the flow of the remaining gas in the EU,” he said and assured.
Pigno made sure the EU was actively working on implementing this plan, and a clear mechanism was already determined, how exactly it would happen. The final purpose of these steps is the final cessation of Russia’s energy consumption.
He also said that the employment of 19 EU penalties against Russia is still ongoing, and proposals have not been submitted to bloc members.
Remember that last weekend Trump twice passed a request for EU and NATO countries to stop buying oil and gas in Russia. And in general, penalties in Europe against the Russian Federation are “not poor enough”, so they need to be strengthened, the American leader believes.
