The Kremlin opposes official Taipei positioning itself apart from China, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announced visit to Taiwan is a “provocation” and pressure on China. This was stated by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova at a briefing on Tuesday, August 2, Reuters reports.
“We (the ruling regime of Russia – ed.) do not support the independence of the island of Taiwan from the PRC in any form,” the Russian official assured.
Taiwan is actually an island state separate from China with its own constitution, army and democratically elected government.
Currently, Taiwan is recognized by fourteen small states.
China considers the island as its province. At the same time, some Taiwanese politicians are offering to officially declare independence, but Beijing is threatening war in response to such actions.
It can be recalled that the Chinese authorities on Tuesday, August 2, once again warned the United States about the situation during the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, to Taiwan.
It was previously reported that Taiwan raised its combat readiness level from the morning of August 2 to noon on August 4.
