This decision removed from Russia an excuse to explain the decrease in gas supplies by technical reasons, to blame the sanctions for it, explained the German Chancellor.
Canada’s decision to transfer the repaired turbine for the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline to Russian Gazprom was the right one. It helped uncover Russian President Vladimir Putin’s bluff, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with the Canadian edition of The Globe and Mail, published on Tuesday, August 2.

“Thanks to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, we have exposed Putin’s bluff! We do not believe that the supply cut is due to technical reasons. Russia is trying to assert and fight one ally against another – we must not let him succeed. As the turbine is ready for delivery, Russia must renew its contractual obligations,” Scholz said.
In his opinion, the decision to supply the turbine is not a service to Gazprom.
“This is a strong sign of support for Germany and Europe, as well as support for unity among the closest allies for the long-term support of Ukraine,” the chancellor said, adding that the weakening of Germany and Europe is will not help Ukraine.
Scholz also said that such a decision removed from Russia an excuse to explain the decrease in gas supplies by technical reasons, to blame the sanctions for it.
“Furthermore, our sanctions remain in place. They are working. Russia’s productive capacity is falling, its economy is in recession, and access to essential goods is severely limited,” added the German chancellor.
According to him, the allies “set their sights” on additional sectors of the Russian economy and are closing loopholes to avoid restrictive measures.
On the eve it became known that Russia refused to use a gas turbine repaired by Siemens Energy.
Meanwhile, Gazprom reduced gas supplies through Nord Stream by 1 to 20% of capacity – 33 million cubic meters per day.
