The UN Secretary General noted that humanity is in danger of forgetting the lessons learned from the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The dangers of using nuclear weapons have reached levels seen during the Cold War. This is what UN Secretary General António Guterres said at the opening of the conference of countries participating in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
“Humanity is in danger of forgetting the lessons learned from the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Geopolitical tensions have reached new heights,” he said.
Guterres called on the world to completely eliminate nuclear weapons.
“Risk reduction is not enough. The elimination of nuclear weapons is the only guarantee that they will not be used. We must work tirelessly towards this goal,” said the UN Secretary General.
It was previously reported that Germany intends to act as an observer in the consultations on the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
Recall that the former commander of NATO estimated the possibility of a nuclear strike on Ukraine.
