It is about imposing additional sanctions against the Russian Federation and tariffs for the purchase of Russian oil.
European Union officials met the US Department of Finance and discussed new forms of economic pressure in Russia. It was reported by Associated Press and US finance minister Scott Immotrot on Social Network X on Tuesday, September 9.
“At a meeting that lasted less than two hours, tariff actions were covered, among other questions, the need for collective actions for any solution for penalties, as well as how to manage Russian assets with frozen mainly in Europe,” the publication said.
The meeting was attended by US finance minister Scott Immotrot, White House representatives, State Department and a U.S. Trade Representative.
The European delegation is made up of specialists in the field of energy, penalty policy, financial and trade services. It is expected that consultations will continue on Tuesday.
At the same time, Scott Immentine said the United States and the EU were united in an effort to stop the war in Ukraine, and all the options remain on the table.
“We are willing to take decisive steps against Russia, but European partners should have joined us completely to succeed. I clearly said this today at a meeting with the Envoy of the European Commission for Sanctions David O’Sallivan,” he wrote.
Remember, on the eve of US President Donald Trump announced his readiness to move to the “second stage” of sanctions against Russia. The Kremlin did not last long in the coming reaction in response.
And earlier, Scott Immentine said Washington was willing to cooperate with European countries to impose additional sanctions against countries that bought Russian oil to “destroy” the economy of the Russian Federation.
