Washington is deeply concerned that Moscow is using the nuclear power plant as a military base, the US Secretary of State said.
The Kremlin uses the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant as a “humanitarian” in attacks on Ukrainian military and civilian targets. This was announced on Monday, August 1, by United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Reuters wrote.
He noted that Russia has taken the “humanitarian” tactic to a whole new, terrifying level.
“Recently, we witnessed the Russian invasion that occupied the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, the largest of its kind in all of Europe,” said Blinken. and will not be abandoned, because they accidentally get into the reactor or too much radioactive waste in the storage.”
“It takes the idea of using a human shield to a whole different, terrifying level,” said the US Secretary of State.
It should be noted that on March 4, the Russian invaders seized the city of Energodar and the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant of the state company Energoatom, located near the city. As a result of the fighting, a fire broke out on the territory of the nuclear power plant, the invaders also got into one of the six nuclear power units. The worst was avoided – the fire was extinguished, the radiation background in the territory of the nuclear power plant did not change.
Energoatom reported that the invaders kidnapped up to 100 ZNPP employees.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that ZNPP was turned into a military garrison by the Russian armed forces.
