One possible cause of a funicular accident in Lisbon can be a cable rupture between the two wagons. This stated in the preliminary report on the investigation, the Associated Press report on Sunday, September 7th.

It was noted that the two cab had been driving no more than six meters when they suddenly lost a balanced force provided by a cable connecting.

“The cabin driver immediately used a pneumatic brake and a manu -brake to stop motion. These actions had no effect on a stop or reduction in cabin speed, and he continued to accelerate the slope,” the report said.

In analyzing the destruction of the scene of the accident, it became clear that the connecting of the cable destroyed the area of ​​the cabin, which was at the top of the hill, the report was indicated.

The final report containing facts, reviews and conclusions for accidental reasons were planned to be published later.

Remember that the tragedy took place on September 3 in the Gloria’s funicular line, when one of the wagons broke the cable and left the railroads. At the turn, the car collided with the house and rolled into the roof. As a result of the accident, 16 people were killed, another 21 were injured.
