The world is moving towards the need to form defensive tools, stated by minister Aleshandre Silweire.
Brazil may need nuclear weapons because of the underlying global situation. Authorities will likely need to change the policy in this area. This was said by the mining and energy Minister of the country of Aleshandre Silweier, the day before publication Folha de S. Paulo.
He remembered that the Constitution allowed the use of nuclear technologies exclusively for a peaceful goal – for energy and medicine, but “if the world situation continues to develop as of today,” it is necessary to remove these restrictions.
“We are watching serious international shocks in the world, especially recently. Brazil is a giant country with 11% of the world’s fresh water reserves, with tropical climate, fertile soil and large mineral wealth … In the future we will also need nuclear technologies for national defense,” the minister said.
Silweira later added that she was considering such a scenario that was inevitable in the long run.
“The world, of course, is moving to a sad but real need to develop defense tools,” he said.
According to the minister, in Brazil there are all the conditions for this: it has the technologies of the entire nuclear fuel cycle and has one of the largest uranium reserves in the world.
“We should think in advance how to use this potential, including the goals of the defense,” Silweira added.
It is known that during the military dictatorship in 1964-1985, Brazil secretly developed nuclear weapons. This program acts in line with civilians for peaceful use of the atom. The country left it in 1990 as part of the transition to a democratic system and international obligation to non -proliferation.
Earlier it was learned that Russia would teach North Koreans to look for uranium. Rosgeology, along with the Irkutsk National Research Technical University, will launch an appropriate training program for geologists from DPRK.
