The Russian government suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin condemns the European Convention to prevent torture.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responded to this decision of Moscow. Diplomats called this an actual recognition of a crime – a systemic practice of torture and a desire to avoid responsibility for gross violations of human rights. On August 27, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was relevant on Facebook.
Modern Russia is the territory of lawlessness and humiliation of human dignity. The decision to withdraw from the Convention on torture only consolidates this reality and, finally, puts Russia in a number of countries for which the price of human life and dignity is zero, the statement said.
The diplomatic agency explained that this convention contains a mechanism for visiting services for checking conditions and processing people.
It is known that the European Convention on torture prevents torture and obliges them to prevent them. For this purpose, the European Committee on Prevention of Torture (EKZT) was created – an independent international body that has the right to conduct inspections in prisons, colonies, institutions of detention, psychiatric institutions and other prison places.
The Russian Federation ratified the Convention on February 28, 1998.
We will recall that on August 26, the government of the country of aggressor proposed to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to leave the European Convention on the prevention of torture, to which the Russian Federation joined the status of a member of Europe.
