Bundeswehr tries to solve problems with his staff by making spontaneous military services that are more attractive.
Germany aims not only to better equip its armed forces, but also significantly expand them: instead of the current 183 thousand soldiers acting, their number must grow to 260 thousand at the beginning of the 2030s. And the number of operational reservists should double from 100 to 200 thousand.
To attract people to the army, the government wants to make the military service more attractive and motivate thousands of young people to serve Bundeswehr in the coming years.
The German Defense Minister expects a huge volunteer to flow, but critics are speaking of deficiencies and calling for the return of mandated military services in the country.
Returning military accounting system
Although the military service in Germany remains voluntary, the new law establishes the request: beginning in 2026, the questionnaire will be sent for all 18 years. Men need to fill it in, but for women it is voluntary, Deutsche Welle wrote.
The survey appreciates their interest in service in Bundeswehr. The idea is that, filled with the questionnaire, young people will be in touch with Bundeswehr as a potential employer. Related candidates are invited to participate in the call.
Since July 2027, all 18-year-old men have to undergo a medical evaluation, even if they have not selected voluntary military services. The Commission will determine their suitability for military service for health reasons.
The purpose of the German defense ministry is to get an idea of the number of men suitable for military service in the country. Since the suspension of military duty in 2011, the government and authority had no data about who would be available for a emergency service. Back to the SO -Called Military Accounting System aims to fill this space.
Moreover, when there is still a call, Bundeswehr has an appropriate infrastructure. Now it’s not like that. Defense Pistorius minister emphasizes that Bundeswehr is not only able to at the same time putting and train all the mobilizing men.
Chancellor Mertz reiterated this argument after a Ministers’ cabinet meeting: “We are not enough barracks and we do not have enough teachers. This means that everything should build from the bottom up to.”
More money and free service
The minimum duration of the new service is six months, the maximum – 23 months. In the first six months, recruits undergo basic military training, including control of drones. They can then receive additional qualifications in one of the military branches – infantry, air forces, navy or cybercards.
In the future, all military personnel will be classified as a temporary soldier. In this status, military personnel will receive a significantly better wage, a clean monthly salary is approximately 2300 euros. In addition, they will receive free accommodation, medical care and travel by train.
According to the Ministry of Defense, this year 15 thousand soldiers will voluntarily go to military service.
“There is a good reason to believe that we will follow the increasing number of thousands of years, reaching nearly 30 thousand by 2029,” Pistorius explained.
However, if there are some volunteers, then in Germany they will automatically return the call.
Without the opportunity to succeed?
Politicians from conservative CDS and CSS conservative parties are skeptical of the success of voluntary military services, no matter how attractive it is.
“Voluntary Military Service will not solve the problem of Bundeswehr personnel, but Germany will only spend valuable time,” said the leader of the XSS Marcus Zeder
Even with German youth, enthusiasm is limited: according to the Yugov survey, most of them have no desire to undergo military service or any other forced military service. 55 percent of young people aged 16 to 26 years in Germany opposed the introduction of mandatory military service, according to a survey conducted in July.
