Russia may come from the European Convention on Torture Prevention.
The government of the country of the aggressor suggested that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin abandoned this convention, to which Russia joined the status of a member of the Council of Europe. The corresponding resolution of the Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin has already been published on the website of the Russian government.
It is known that the European Convention on torture prevents torture and obliges them to prevent them. For this purpose, the European Committee on Prevention of Torture (EKZT) was created – an independent international body that has the right to conduct inspections in prisons, colonies, institutions of detention, psychiatric institutions and other prison places.
Thanks to these conventions, representatives of the committee can, without any obstacles, reach the territory of participating countries, receive complete information about the places of detention of prisoners and move freely in these institutions. Nevertheless, the visit of the committee may be denied from the threat of national security or emergency situations.
The Russian Federation has been a member of the Council of Europe since 1996. However, on March 16, 2022, the European Committee decided to immediately exclude the country of the aggressor from the organization due to a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
We recall that on July 15, Verkhovna Rada supported the bill No. 0329, which provides for the withdrawal of Ukraine from the Convention on the ban on the use, accumulation of stocks, the production and transfer of anti -l.
