The warehouse holds obsolete ammunition ordered by companies but not paid for.
On Sunday, July 31, at around 4 am, an explosion occurred at the EMKO ammunition depot near the Bulgarian town of Karnobat, BNR reports.
The explosion caused a fire, which has now been extinguished. The scene was examined by a drone, the area will be closed for 72 hours.
The deputy mayor of Karnobat, Stefka Ivanova, said there were no casualties or threats to the population.
According to the owner of the warehouse, Emilian Gebrev, obsolete ammunition is stored there, ordered by companies, but not paid for:
“We are not talking about any human error, because there is no human error. At four o’clock in the morning something exploded, then the warehouse caught fire. No one can say what is inside. It is forbidden to enter for 24 hours, but this, in principle, ammunition, some are no longer needed at the factory. Some companies once ordered, then due to non-payment the goods were not received, and we had no choice but to store them there.
It will be recalled that earlier the Czech Republic accused the Russian Federation of organizing an explosion that occurred on October 16, 2014 at an arms depot in the eastern part of the country, as a result of which two local residents were killed. Only 6.5 years later, the leadership of the Czech government officially accused Russia of organizing this sabotage.
