The previous day, the Russian Federation itself invited representatives of the UN and the ICRC to investigate the tragedy that occurred in Yelenovka.
Russia has rejected the request of the International Committee of the Red Cross for access to prisoners of war from the Yelenovskaya colony. At the same time, it was the Russian Federation that the day before called representatives of the ICRC and the UN to go to the scene of the tragedy and conduct their own investigation. This was reported on the humanitarian mission’s Twitter page.
The organization recalled that warring parties were obliged to give Red Cross employees access to prisoners.
“We note that our request yesterday for access to prisoners of war from the Yelenovskaya colony was not granted. Giving the ICRC access to prisoners of war is an obligation of the parties to the conflict in accordance with the Geneva Conventions, ” said the report.
To be clear, our request to access the POWs from the Olenivka penal facility yesterday was not granted.
Providing ICRC access to POWs is an obligation of the parties to the conflict under the Geneva Conventions.

Recall that earlier the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on its Telegram channel posted a message inviting representatives of the UN and the ICRC to investigate the tragedy that occurred in Yelenovka. At the same time, when employees of the organization want to visit the place of events, they are not allowed.
