The Foreign Ministry of India has accused western countries of continuing to trade with the Russian Federation, despite the penalties.

India has accused the United States and Europe of trade in Russia after President Donald Trump hit him with strict tariffs. It was written by a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India Randhir Jaysswal on Social Network X on Monday, August 4.

“In fact, India began to import oil from Russia, as traditional delivery was redirected to Europe after the start of the conflict (Russian War against Ukraine -Ed.). At that time, the United States actively encouraged such existing India to boost the stability of energy markets in the world,” JiaISVal said.

He added that India is said to be forced to buy Russia’s oil to provide “unpredictable and affordable energy prices for India consumers.”

Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative also accused western countries of continuing to trade in Russia, despite the penalties, and emphasized that in their case it was “not an important national need.”

Jaysswal said that in 2024 the bilateral turnover of the European Union with Russia reached 67.5 billion euros, and the trade volume in the services of 2023 – 17.2 billion euros. This, according to him, is “more than the amount of trade in India with Russia.”

LNG imports in Europe in 2024 reached a record of 16.5 million tons, exceeding the previous 2022 record to 15.21 million tons, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India added.

The United States has accused Jaiswal to import a uranium hexaffeoride from Russia for the nuclear industry, Palladium for the manufacture of electrical vehicles, as well as fertilizers and chemicals.

“Against this background, the focus in India is unfair and unreasonable. Like any major economy, India will take all the necessary steps to protect national interest and economic security,” he emphasized.

Remember that US president Donald Trump has promised to “significantly” increase duties for India due to the resale of Russian oil.

In recent days, Trump has repeatedly criticized India’s authorities for the purchase of Russian oil and weapons. For this, the US leader announced the increase of 25% tariffs for India from August 1st.
