Near the coast of Kamchatka (RF) at night on Wednesday, July 30, two powerful earthquakes took place at the same time – by Force 8.7 and 5.8 points on Richter’s scale. An urgent evacuation was announced in the city of Sever-Kurilsk, a kind of kindergarten was hit with Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and tsunami waves covered Sakhalin. CNN reported this, as well as Russian media channels and telegram.
It was noted that after the earthquake, a four -meter tsunami rose, which collapsed on Kuril islands and partially flooded them. According to some reports, it could affect the base of Russia’s Pacific Fleet in Vilkovo, no evidence of these data.
The US Geological Service confirmed the earthquakes and announced a warning about the tsunami for the Hawaiian and Aleutian islands. There is a warning about the tsunami up to a meter height for the eastern regions of Japan.
The governor of the island of Sakhalin Valery Limarenko announced the departure of local residents. Meanwhile, Russian channels have published many videos from Russian cities affected by the earthquake. Victims of natural disaster have not been reported.
