The UN and the Red Cross acted as guarantors of the lives of Ukrainian soldiers when they surrendered to the invaders, the head of state recalled.
The UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross must respond to the killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the occupied Yelenovka, Donetsk region. This was announced on Friday, July 29, by President Volodymyr Zelensky in an evening video message following the results of the 156th day of the war.
“When the defenders of Azovstal left the plant, the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross acted as guarantors of the life and health of our soldiers. The Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service, the Main Directorate of Intelligence and the representative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine issued a joint statement to the UN, the Red Cross as guarantors of those agreements with the defenders of Azovstal. I support this statement. Now the guarantors must respond. Must they will protect the lives of hundreds of Ukrainian prisoners of war,” said the head of state.
He noted that Ukrainian diplomacy brought information about the Russian attack on Yelenovka to the highest international level and that the invaders could not hide the truth.
Zelensky urged the United States to immediately recognize the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism.
“Russia has proven with numerous terrorist attacks that it is the biggest source of terrorism in the world today. This is a fact,” the president stressed.
Remember, on the eve it became known that Russian troops opened fire on the colony in Yelenovka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war are kept, including the defenders of Mariupol. According to the occupiers, 53 people died as a result of the terrorist attack, and 75 others were injured.
As indicated, the attack on the colony was carried out from Grad by multiple rocket launchers.
