Parliamentarians received a document written by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal about changes for citizens who want to get a Ukrainian passport.
The Government of Ukraine invites parliamentarians to support changes in the conditions for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship. In particular, on Thursday, July 28, the Verkhovna Rada registered the relevant bill 7606 written by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
In an explanatory note, the head of government draws attention to the fact that Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine “made adjustments to the attitude of the state towards the institution of Ukrainian citizenship.”
The document states that the applicant is obliged to pass a comprehensive test on the basics of the Constitution, the history of Ukraine and knowledge of the Ukrainian language within two years from the date of admission to citizenship. At the same time, failure to fulfill the obligation to pass the tests entails the possible loss of citizenship.
The draft law also provides conditions for the adoption of Ukrainian citizenship by children and people with persistent mental and intellectual disabilities.
Recall that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in response to the relevant petition, ordered the government to think about the introduction of tests for obtaining citizenship.
Earlier it was reported that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will prepare bills on the introduction of a comprehensive exam for obtaining citizenship of our country.
