The country’s authorities supported the initiative of the Ministry of Defense to provide additional support to Ukraine.
The Latvian government has approved the allocation of additional military aid to Ukraine. On July 28, the head of the country’s Ministry of Defense, Artis Pabriks, announced this on Twitter.
“This morning, the government of Latvia supported the initiative of the Latvian Ministry of Defense to provide additional military assistance to Ukraine,” he said.
According to the portal Delfi, the decision was made in a closed meeting on Thursday. The Ministry of Defense did not specify what kind of support would be provided to the Ukrainians.
It is noted that since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Latvian government has discussed providing assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine several times in closed meetings.
In total, Riga provided more than 200 million euros worth of weapons and personal equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, dry rations, ammunition, anti-tank weapons and Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems to Kyiv.
Recall that the Saeima of Latvia approved a complete ban on natural gas imports from Russia from January 1, 2023.
