An unusual ceremony took place in the City of Mexico of San Pedro-Uamelule: The city mayor marries a female rural in a traditional ritual, lasting more than two centuries.
In the southern Mexico town of San Pedro-Uamella, a unique ritual passes annually: the mayor of the city symbolizes a living female Kayman. Reuters reported it.
This ritual is part of the tradition, which is over 230 years old, and introduced the union of two native OHAK state cultures – Chontalov and Waave.
This year, current mayor Daniel Gutierres has acted as a bride. His “bride” is a cow named Migulan Estela del Mar Savale Ramirez – or “Princess -Girl”, as she is gently called the town.
A reptile led to a white wedding dress on the town’s streets, combined with music and dancing. Locals welcomed the “bride” of their homes, wishing the community of prosperity.
At the end of the ceremony, the mayor was symbolic kissed Kayman – as a sign of love and unity with his people. According to legend, the marriage between the Princess of Waave and King of Jontalov in the past has completed a long -term conflict between the tribes. Today, the ceremony symbolizes the world, respect for each other and the gratitude of Earth Earth.
The festival continues for three days, where many traditional outfits are changing Kaingan: in particular, motley skirts, head jewelry and a bright Soka people’s clothing.
The ceremony completed the celebration of the festival in honor of St. Peter, the city’s patron saint. According to the mayor, it is certainly thanks to this ritual, “Huamella is in the attention.”
