German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz said Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, does not show any readiness for the world, thus new penalties, the strengthening of NATO and Germany’s potential defense must answer. He emphasized it in a commentary The Guardian.
He explained that “a real, strong world requires readiness from all sides”, while the “signal from Russia” shows that Moscow is not yet ready for the world, but “quite opposite.”
The Chancellor emphasized that Putin is a continuing invasion against Ukraine, using the world’s movement in the Middle East.
Mertz urged allies to support a new, 18th pack of EU penalties, directed against the Shadow fleet, financially the Russian war.
“I, as usual, are sure that the American government will go this way,” he added.
As for the NATO Summit, Mertz called it “historical”, emphasizing the importance of increasing defense costs to member countries. He emphasized that allies were not acting for the United States, but based on the real threat from Russia.
