Russia expands military presence in the Arctic – gur

The Kremlin expands the military presence in the Arctic and prepares a bridge for expanding the resource. This was revealed by the representative of the main director of the Ministry of Defense of the Ukraine Andrei Chernyak, the department’s press service on Wednesday, June 18.

According to him, Russia is trying to combine economic and military-technical existence under the leadership of “scientific activity” there.

The main tool for implementing the Arctic Strategy of the Russian Federation is a state enterprise Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute. Formally, the structure performs scientific activities, however, it is actually a link to the Moscow military project project, the GUR representative said. The scientific expeditions that organize the institute’s study of water temperature, the strength of the waves, the air dynamics, and also predict changes in the glacial cover. All of these data have a dual purpose – both for civil use and for planning military operations and the movement of the armada, mentioned in the GUR.

Considering, the Russian Federation will develop regional infrastructure: it establishes communication equipment, in particular satellite communication systems that can be used to adjust Arctic operations of the northern Armada of the Russian Federation and ensure actions of unattended systems.
