The UN General Assembly voted to remove Russia from the Human Rights Council.
Russian diplomats sent threatening notes to delegations of UN member states so that they would not vote for the suspension of Russia’s participation in UN Human Rights Council activities. On Thursday, April 7, CNN reported.
The agency said Russia had threatened delegations that there would be “consequences” for these countries in supporting the resolution to suspend Russia’s participation in UN Human Rights Council activities.
“It should be noted that not only support for such an initiative, but also an equivalent vote position (abstention or non -participation) would be considered an unfriendly act,” the note said.
Recall that the UN General Assembly decided to expel Russia from the Human Rights Council. It was supported by 93 countries. However, 55 states abstained and 24 voted against.
