The Ministry of Defense reported details about the project to involve volunteers in air protection.
Volunteers who are not mobilized and trained will participate in GPP (air defense groups). They will be able to use drones, piloted aircraft, rifle hands, radio communications and AI system.
The project will be financed from the state budget, local budgets, united24 platforms and other authorized sources. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reports this.
The group members will have social guarantees provided for military personnel. The Ministry of Defense hopes that the project will strengthen the air defense and increase their readiness for new threats.
At a meeting on June 11, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a resolution on the implementation of an experimental project to create air protection groups that will be formed among participants in volunteer forms of territorial communities. Their main task is to counteract air threats, in particular, using the shock of unmanned enemy aircraft.
As noted, the project was developed by the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation in order to implement a decision on the rate of the supreme commander. Its key goal is to create an effective mechanism for identifying, supporting and neutralizing air threats, as well as include prepared and motivated citizens in the tasks of air defense in conditions of increasing the enemy’s activities.
Air protection groups will be formed on the territorial principle. They will be subordinated to commanders of the territorial defense forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to complete the tasks of air defense forces – the command of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces.
The document provides for the possibility of using private manned aircraft in the air defense system. The legal mechanism for their participation is first regulated: temporary registration procedures are simplified, and the conditions were reduced to 10 days (earlier such registration took from 2 to 6 months for state aircraft ships).
To this day, there were no legal grounds for attracting private aircraft to carry out the tasks of the DSC, despite the fact that conscious citizens have long been offering their equipment and their participation in the reflection of the enemy air attacks. This step will expand the possibilities of air defense in the face of the growing use of enemy drones, ”said Defense Minister Rastima Umarov.
