It would be nice if the mediator countries were not focused on the fact that they could be lost due to sanctions against Russia, the President said.
The American side today does not seem to be a strong mediator on the issue of a peaceful war in Ukraine. President Vladimir Zelensky said in an interview with Hungarian publication Vari, published on Tuesday, June 10.
The head of the state said Ukraine now needs strong mediators so that the Russians cannot abandon the agreements reached by the negotiations.
“The United States now does not seem to be a strong mediator: the Russians have told them not to be at the negotiation table, but they just left. Why? Because of their soft policy towards Russia,” the President said.
According to him, on June 2, in negotiations in Istanbul, the Russians admitted that their very important “memorandum” was a direct ultimatum in Ukraine.
“We want to stop the war, but for this we need the will of both sides. If the other side is not ready for it, it will always come out of something. They even say our delegation: We know our memorandum is a ultimate and you won’t accept it. Thus, the question is not as a format Istanbul, but what to do with the Russian lies,” Zelenensky said.
According to the president, it would be nice if the country’s mediators were not focused on the fact that they could disappear from the Parus-which is the hassle in the economy they will deal with, or what happens to cooperation in space and satellite connection-and focusing on what negotiations about: people and the fact that people are dying. “
“The rest can be discussed in bilateral negotiations,” he summed.
Earlier, Zelensky first commented on Russia’s “Memorandum”. The Russians presented their requirements in a final paper form, the implementation of which was impossible in advance.
Meanwhile, axios, citing resources, inform that Russian conditions in the memorandum have not really changed. As usual, Moscow demands the removal of Ukrainian troops from four regions, none of which it cannot be fully controlled.
