In the fall, the government expects a new wave of population migration from the east to calmer regions.
Almost 800 thousand Ukrainians need housing, because they lost their homes due to the war. On Sunday, July 24, Ukrinform wrote in relation to the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Irina Vereshchuk.
He said the authorities are trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible. In particular, the Ministry of Regional Development is building modular housing. at the same time, Vereshchuk agreed that such temporary housing is too small to meet the needs of all people.
At the same time, he noted that modular towns cannot be a panacea, as some of the homeless do not want to live in such structures.
“For example, in the Chernihiv region, when people don’t really want to live in modular towns, because they lived in their own private buildings. But it can’t be guaranteed yet,” said Vereshchuk.
He also emphasized that it is not possible to meet the housing needs this year.
“The fact that housing will not be built in sufficient quantities this year, it must be said. The fact that people will move and the heating season will be difficult is also true. But the fact that we are committed, for example, in housing, insulation, reconstruction, replacement of boilers, we do everything so that displaced people have a place to live and where to spend the winter – this is also a fact,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
He emphasized that about half a million more people will move from east to west in the fall, putting an additional burden on those who left earlier.
It was previously reported that nearly 250,000 internally displaced people, a significant portion of those who received IDP status, said they still have not received cash payments from the state.
