The EU continued the privileged import regime of Ukrainian steel and iron.
The Council of the European Union supported the continuation of the preferential regime for the import of steel and iron from Ukraine to the European Union, which ends on June 5. The decision is aimed at supporting the Ukrainian economy in the war and will enter into force on June 6, 2025 and will be valid for three years. This is indicated on the web sake of the EU advice.
It is noted that the abolition of responsibilities and quotas allows Ukrainian manufacturers and exporters of iron and steel to avoid restrictions imposed in 2018 to protect European industry from excessive global proposal.
The European Commission reserved the right to temporarily suspend this rules for certain goods for up to 12 months. The corresponding decision will be made if the import of steel and iron from Ukraine will increase to a level that can harm the European industry, which produces similar or competing goods.
Recall that in May the European Union did not continue the rejection of a trading visa since June 5, 2025. Poland was against automatic continuation, as well as Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.
