The missile attack on Odessa may lead to problems with the export of grain from Ukrainian ports.
Ukraine could export 60 million tons of grain in eight to nine months if its ports were not blocked, but Russia’s strike on the port of Odessa showed that it certainly won’t be that easy. This is what the presidential adviser on economic issues, Oleg Ustenko, said, Reuters reports.
“If the ports are unblocked now, and we say we need to transport 60 million tons of grain … then we will transport them in eight to nine months. But how they opens today and what the Russian Federation is doing in the Black Sea, yesterday’s blow shows that it will definitely not work like that,” said Ustenko.
According to him, Ukraine can earn $10 billion by selling the existing 20 million tons of grain and 40 million tons of new crops. Another 20 million tons will remain for domestic consumption.
It will be recalled that Russian missiles hit the port of Odessa a day after Russia and Ukraine, mediated by the UN and Turkey, signed an agreement to open Black Sea ports and resume grain exports. Moscow claims the missile hit military infrastructure.
