The Gaza sector lies in ruins after a year and a half of the Israeli military operation. Bild writes that the orders of evacuation and prohibited army zones led to the fact that only about the fifth of the entire territory remains suitable.
After the massacre organized by Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023 (more than 1200 dead), the Israeli army (IDF) began large attacks on the terrorist group. Although the army warns of air strikes, there are civilian sacrifices almost every day. Hamas uses them as a living shield and, thus, consciously assumes a large number of dead.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to move the entire population in gas with 2 million people to the south. This is due to the purpose of destroying Hamas and the release of 58 hostages, which are still held. Many residents of the North, according to CNN, were running on the coast one way or another. Others live in tents among ruins, for example, in the fortress of Hamas Hamas Unissa in the south.
Since the end of the last truce between Israel and Hamas, March 18, at least 31 orders of evacuation have been published – sometimes several times a day. According to the UN assessment, about 600,000 people were moved during this period (many are not the first time).
According to the Danish Council for Refugees (DRC), since the beginning of the war in October 2023, the middle resident of Gaza was forced to leave his place in the residence six times.
Most of the remaining areas that do not apply orders for evacuation are badly damaged. The study of the Center for graduate school of New York University (Cuny) showed that 60% of the buildings were destroyed. According to the UN satellite center, 68% of the roads were also damaged, which further complicates the distribution of humanitarian aid in the Gaza sector.
