Russians can monitor the supply of weapons in real time. Attacks gained access to nearly 10 thousand cameras.
Russia’s intelligence gained access to video tracking cameras near border points, military facilities and railroad stations at the major European points. On Wednesday, May 21, the Guardian reported that there was a reference to the British and European intelligence.
The GRU Division noted to hack border security cameras to spy on supplies and violate the flow of help in the western entering Ukraine.
The Russian military intelligence unit has been accused of using a number of methods for attacking organizations engaged in providing foreign assistance by hacking cameras at border border, railroad stations and near military facilities.
The 26165 GRU units have also been accused of emoting phishing letters with pornographic content or fake professional information, as well as using stolen passwords to access systems.
It is claimed that this unit, also known as APT 28 or Fancy Bear, has been conducting cyber attacks against the state and private organizations of NATO countries since 2022.
In its warning, the National Cybersecurity Center of Great Britain (NCSC), part of the Center for Government Communications, called on private companies participating in supplies to “immediately take steps for their own protection.”
“In addition to attacking logistics companies, the military of 26165 units probably uses access to private cameras in major areas, such as border border, military facilities and train stations, to monitor the movements of Ukraine materials. Attacks also use legal services in the municipality, in particular the road,” said the warning. “
According to estimates, attacks have gained access to nearly 10 thousand cameras located near military facilities and railroad stations to monitor the movement of goods in Ukraine. 80% of them are in Ukraine, another 10% in Romania.
It was noted that 4% of hacking cameras were placed in Poland, 2.8% in Hungary, 1.7% in Slovakia. The locations of the remaining cameras are not disclosed. Hacking is allowed to get a screenshot of images from cameras, resources say.
Other attempts were made to collect confidential information on delivery, in particular, train traffic schedules and shipment documents.
Remember, on the eve of the National Center for Cybersecurity of Great Britain reported the disclosure of the Russian Gru cyberspion operation that aims to interfere with the logistics of the supply of weapons in the west.
