CNN had a conversation with the Russians, when they assumed that in November 2023 they shot a group of Ukrainian prisoners in the Zaporozh region.
These records coincide with a video from a drone, which shows how Russian military shooting of Ukrainian prisoners of war, the newspaper writes.
In the video – six Ukrainian military lies facing the ground, at least two shootings close, another leadership. In Ukraine, this case is investigated.
In Ukraine, radio programs, it seems that the Russian commander, whose name and name CNN was not established during a conversation with troops on the front line. The records of the two Russians are called the call sign “Art” and “White”.
The Ukrainian intelligence officer shared the transcription of radio receivers, which, in their opinion, they intercepted at 12:05 local time, when the Ukrainian positions were fragmented, and they continued until 12.31, when obvious fears about the arrival of the Ukrainian conversation forced the Russian commander to streamline the administration.
CNN could not independently check the transmission time.
To hear the Russian commander gave an order to murder six times. According to the transcript, the first order of the commander was given at 12.22.
Ask whom the commander. Who is the commander? Ask. Take the commander captured and kill everyone else – hear his words.
Four minutes later, he repeated the order twice.
Do it yourself. Take the commander in captivity and other bursts.
That’s all. Take out the older and other hell, take it!
The commander often requires updating information from his combat unit, which can hardly answer.
Someone, so, answer whether the etacvuars seem to be or not?
A soldier with a call “art”, who seems to be the main interlocutor, says that they did not find the Ukrainian commander, but only the “senior”.
According to the video codes, the video from the drone obtained by CNN covers only the period from 12.27 to 12.30, but it seems that there is a clear connection between the teams registered in the show and what is happening on Earth on the drive from the drone.
At 12.28, the order hit the radio, and from the leaves of the soldiers appeared in a mask and a dark green form, which corresponds to the Russian military, and moved to the prisoners.
Get out of here! Take the elder, get rid of others, tin! The commander said.
The granular video shows one Ukrainian soldier, who, obviously, gestures Russian. After a moment, the soldier in a mask shoots in the head. Then the voice of the Russian commander, recorded on the video, asks if the murder is completed.
Did you shoot them? Question. Did you shoot them? Question.
Art! Art! I’m white, of course!
We killed everything else, boring.
In the video, another Ukrainian, probably, the commander, who was still motionless, gets up, removes the bulletproof vest and leads. The Russian commander expresses his concern for the radio when the drone rises above the smoke. Then they were ordered to retreat.
The video records satellite images of the village of Novodarivka, which considered CNN and the Center for Sustainability of Information, an insurmountable organization that documents potential violations of human rights. In the pictures taken by Maxar Technologies in October 2024, they show fields with similar vegetation, trees and craters, as can be seen in the video from the drone.
Robert Macher, professor of electrical engineering and computer engineering at the University of Montana, which specializes in the forensic audio analysis, studied radio receivers for CNN. According to Macher, the audio recordings that were sent to CNN in dozens of separate files looked coordinated. He said that he did not see “no signs that they are not genuine.”
Ukrainian officials and international experts claim that the murder of Ukrainian military is part of the planned Russian policy. This incident, according to, is one of the first cases when intercepted radio programs are related to recording probable execution.
CNN first announced this probable policy in September last year, talked in detail about the video that showed the obvious execution of the Russian troops of the three surrounding the fired city of Zavovsk in eastern Ukraine in August last year.
Ukrainian officials argue that the likely executions are fueled by the cultural hatred of Russia to its opponents, but is also aimed at psychological influence. Ohrimenko said that Russian soldiers published a video about the decapitation and castration of the Ukrainian military in order to influence moral spirit.
The UN representative and Western intelligence confirmed CNN that the conversation and video recording corresponds to other documented cases of Ukrainian prisoners.
The UN special speaker on extrajudicial executions said that the sound and video indicate that the Russians killed the soldiers who had already surrendered. Such actions are a gross violation of international law, and, in his opinion, can only occur with the consent of the top leadership of Russia.
The representative of Western Intelligence told CNN that he looked at the audio files of interceptions and “found them genuine, reliable and relevant previously documented cruel executions. Obviously, the soldier was ordered to execute the Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered. ”
The official said that in other cases he studied similar materials that “confirm the existence of the Russian command of the Russian command to kill Ukrainian soldiers who were transferred or during delivery.”
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) informed CNN that Russian soldiers from the “assault unit” of the 394th motorized rifle regiment (127th motorized rifle unit) were involved in the November attack. SBU said that she connected the same “assault unit” with another suspect in execution in the same area – a reckless Ukrainian soldier – and that she was charged with Russian commanders from this unit, which she called the responsible one.
The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine said that as of May 5, she opened 75 criminal investigations on suspicion of 268 Ukrainian prisoners of war. According to her, the number of alleged executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war increased: in 2022 there were eight cases in which there were 57 soldiers in 2023 – eight cases in which 11 soldiers were represented, in 2024 – 39 cases in which 149 soldiers participated, and this year – 20 cases.
Yuri Belusov, head of the Department of Military Crimes of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, said that growth is associated with “instructions provided by the highest leadership of the Russian Federation, both political and military. We have not yet seen a written order, but we have several examples of conditional orders. ”
