The State Secretary responded to Democratic accusations that Trump allowed “to play himself, just like a violin.”
US president Donald Trump did not go to any concessions with the Kremlin Vladimir Putin’s owner in a phone conversation with him the other day. Concerning this at a Senate hearing on Tuesday, May 20, State Secretary Marco Rubio said Reuters reported.
In particular, Democrat Senator Chris Van Gollen accused Rubio of “united with President Trump to throw Ukrainian people under the bus, and Vladimir Putin played you like a violin.”
And Senator Jin Shakhin said thanks to China’s support and the “weakening of Trump’s influence,” Putin did not feel that he needed to stop stopping in Ukraine.
For his part, Rubio emphasized that there were no Russian concessions.
“Putin wakes up now and” nothing has changed “: penalties, as usual, are acting, and the military help in Ukraine continues … he has not achieved a single concession,” Rubio said.
As for imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation, Trump, according to Rubio, believes that in this case the Russians will stop talking. And the United States is “it is worthwhile to talk to them and push them to sit at the negotiation table.” But he will not exclude such a step in the future.
“If it is clear that the Russians are not interested in a peace agreement and just want to continue the war, then it can reach this moment,” Rubio said.
Remember, on May 19, Trump held the phone talks with Putin and President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. Thereafter, the American leader, without announcing, as expected, about new penalties against the Russian Federation, instead it was said that Russia and Ukraine should immediately begin to negotiate with the ceasefire and end of the war. Trump also mentioned that his conversation with Putin was “very good.”
Thereafter, the media wrote that the conversation between Trump and Putin looked like a clear defeat of the American President and the betrayal of Ukraine.
