FT: European leaders are angry with the results of Trump’s talk to Putin

European leaders who joined US president Donald Trump were angry that the American leader was not set to increase the pressure on the Kremlin leader to force him to take seriously at the end of the war in Ukraine. On Monday, May 19, the Financial Times reported.

The newspaper noted that after a two -talk on Putin’s phone, Trump said: Russia and Ukraine “immediately” will begin a discussion of the fire and end of a peace agreement. At the same time, he emphasized that the United States would not participate in negotiations as a mediator, leaving the parties independently of united in the conditions of regulating.

“Despite these statements, Putin was further restrained in public comments, not announcing the changes in the Kremlin position. He noted that Russia was ready to cooperate with Kiev in preparing a memorandum to determine the framework of possible communication in the future. It was, in particular, about the potential ceasefire for a certain time,” said.

They added that Putin described Trump’s conversation as “very confusing and useful”, but he did not express any new obligations. According to him, the memorandum should contain principles and time frames of a possible peace agreement, as well as conditions for the temporary end of hate.

At the same time, he emphasized that Russia continues to assert the “basic requirements”, including “removal of the causes of the conflict.”

“Last week, Russian entrepreneurs set a condition for Kiev – the removal of troops from a number of Ukrainian territories, including Kherson and Zaporozhye, who threatened to expand the work in case of rejection,” the publication records.

After a conversation with Putin, Trump said he shared the content of the talks with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, as well as the leaders of Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Finland and the European Commission.

“Some of European partners were shocked at Trump’s position and remembered about his reluctance to put pressure on Putin to achieve real development in a peaceful process. In particular, the German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz said that all participants in the conversation confirmed their readiness to maintain the Ukraine.

Trump repeatedly said that if the president was elected, he would prevent the war in Ukraine on the first day of his second term. However, despite the final diplomatic steps, the parties remain far from a compromise.

Remember, on May 16, Ukraine and Russia held the first direct negotiation in Istanbul for three years. By the time they lasted, the media learned about the unacceptable -acceptable conditions passed by Russia.
