The ruling party of the country has introduced a bill that will allow the government to draw a list of organizations with foreign financing.
Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban Andrash Laszlo met with Trump administration officials to obtain data to strengthen repression against political opponents before the 2026 election. This was reported by the Reuters News Agency.
The European Party’s deputy from the ruling party filed and the Orban commissioner for the investigation of foreign intervention appealed to American officials with the request to provide information on US Agency for International Development (USAID) activities in Hungary.
American officials, who remember about a possible violation of human rights and freedom, refused to provide these data.
On Friday, May 16, Laszlo told Reuters that some USAID -funded Hungary organizations had a “very political and significant influence on Hungary political life”.
The U.S. Department of the United States confirmed the Laszlo meeting with officials, along with the USAID representative in management and resources, Kennet Jackson, who said it was fixed at the request of the Hungarian official.
On Tuesday, May 13, the Fides submitted a bill that would allow the state body to draw a list of foreign financing organizations, and limit or even close them if the government decides they will cause a threat to its hungary and culture.
