The head of the state urged to increase the pressure in Russia if he did not agree with a complete and unconditional cease.
President Vladimir Zelensky met with European Council president Antoniu Koshta and European Commission president Ursula Von der Lyain. This was announced by the Press Service of the office of the President of Ukraine on Friday, May 16.
Zelensky spoke about negotiations of Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul and called the increase in pressure in Russia if it did not agree with a complete, unconditional stop.
The president thanked the preparation of the 17th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation and mentioned that Ukraine was expecting its adoption next week. Zelensky also added that the next package should include the major sectors of Russia’s economy: banks, oils, energy, metallurgy and shadow fleet.
During assembly, special attention is paid to accelerating Ukraine’s entry into the EU. The head of the state informs about the steps that Ukraine has taken to unlock the negotiation process, and develop this path. Parties discussed the possibility of opening clusters in the near future, as well as trade and economic relationships between Ukraine and EU.
Remember that European Commission president Ursula Von der Lyain said the EC was working on a new package of sanctions against Russia in response to his disruption of the peaceful initiative and further aggressive behavior.
According to media reports, large packages of penalties were agreed at the level of ambassadors of member states, and not a single country – including Hungary – opposed their adoption.
