The work of the International Criminal Court is prevented from the sanctions of US President Donald Trump.
AP writes about this.
The chief prosecutor of the ISS Karim Khan was left without access to Microsoft Mail, its accounts are frozen. US employees warned: a trip to the States is the risk of arrest. Six officials have already been released.
The court considers three complaints from the ISS employees and consultants from the United States against the Trump administration – they believe that sanctions limit their right to freedom of speech. One lawyer investigating the genocide in Sudan has already received temporary protection, but other Americans must file a lawsuit in order to get the same guarantees.
On February 6, Trump signed a resolution on sanctions against the ISS, accusing him of “improper actions” against the United States, Israel and other American allies. Sanctions are also applied to the prosecutor Karim Khan, who issued the order of Putin’s arrest.
Trump authorized this court after the College of Judges of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in November 2024 issued a warrant of the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyaaga and his former Minister of Defense Hoawa Hallant.
The judges came to the conclusion that there are reasons to believe that this couple can commit war crimes by limiting humanitarian assistance and deliberately attacked the civilian population during the Israeli campaign against Hamas in Gaza – accusations that Israeli officials deny.
Employees of the ISS and allies said that the sanctions are increasingly complicating the tribunal of the main tasks, not to mention the achievement of justice for victims of war crimes or genocide.
The press secretary of the ISS and Khan refused to comment. In February, the internal chapter, Judge Tomoko Akane, said that the sanctions “represent serious attacks on the courts of the court, an international order based on the rule of law and millions of victims.”
The order prohibits the khan and other non -Americans among 900 ICS employees entering the United States, who are not members of the court. It also threatens any person, institution or company with fines and imprisonment if they provide Khan “financial, material or technological support”.
Sanctions impede the work on a wide range of investigations, and not just about Israeli leaders.
