In Mexico City, they demand that the Gulf of Google Maps is called “Mexican”, not “American” on Google Maps maps from the USA.
Mexican authorities have accused Google for changing the Mexican Gulf name to “American Bay” for Google Maps users in the United States. On Friday, May 9, Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum, reported The Guardian.
“The lawsuit is already filming,” Shanbaum said at the morning meeting, without specifying where and when it would be filed.
In February, the President warned Google that he was considering the possibility of a court claim if the company did not change its decision. His government says Trump’s order on this issue only applies to the part of the continent shelf, which belongs to the United States.
“The US government only calls part of the US Continental shelf of American Bay, and not the whole bay, because it has no authority to name the entire Bay,” Shanbaum emphasized.
On Thursday, Republicans at the House of Representative of the US Congress approved the repair of Donald Trump’s policy law to rename Mexico’s Gulf in American Bay. The bill was initiated by the right congressman Marjori Taylor Green, and all the Democrats opposed him, and almost all Republicans, except the state of nepobrask Don Beikon, voted “for”.
The bill will make a change to the official names for federal agencies, but is not likely to receive support for the democrats required for passing the Senate. Even if this happens, other countries do not need to use the new name.
Earlier, Google said they would change the name “Gulf of Mexico” to “American Bay” for American users once it has officially updated US Geography names. The change will be noted in the United States, but for users in Mexico, the name “Mexican Bay” will remain. Outside of the two countries, users will see the same names on the Google map.
As reported, Trump said in his inauguration speech that he had replaced the Gulf of Mexico in American. A few hours later, he signed the corresponding command.
In this regard, the President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the change of this name and said “For us and around the world it is still the Gulf of Mexico.”
