For the first time in the history of Ukraine, SBU identified the agent network of military intelligence of Hungary, which spied on the damage of Ukrainian interests.
Agents were instructed to collect information about the military protection of transcarpathy, looked for vulnerable places in the land and air defense of the region, and also studied scenarios of the behavior of local residents if the Hungarian troops entered the region of the region. Law enforcement officers have already detained two agents from the Hungarian special service. The Security Service of Ukraine reported this on May 9 at Telegram.
The curator of abuse was an employee of Hungarian military intelligence, whose person has already identified a special service.
One of his agents was a 40-year-old soldier from the Berekhiv district, who was recruited and transferred to the “waiting regime” in 2021. He began working against Ukraine in September 2024.
The traitor, in particular, received the task of studying the mood of the local population and obtaining the following information:
- What will be the reaction of the military and civilian population of transcarpathy, if the peacekeeping contingent, including the Hungarian military, enters the region;
- What military equipment and weapons can be purchased in the black market of transcarpathy;
- What is the situation with the migration of the Hungarian population in the region;
- What military forces are located in transcarpathy or in many vehicles and combat vehicles;
- How many law enforcement agencies have completed, their number, etc.
In addition, the Hungarian agent personally investigated the deployment of Ukrainian troops and coordinates of the C-300 missile defense systems in transcarpathy. After completing the assignment, he went to Hungary to inform the curator. He crossed the border through a certificate that takes care of his sick father. During the meeting, the curator handed the agent cash for espionage.
And in a birch this year, the agent met the curator for the second time. This time he received special software to communicate a conspiracy.
The new task was to determine the official cars that belong to representatives of security and defense forces in the Transcarpathian region. He also had to inform the Hungarians about the losses of the Armed Forces in the war and current events from the front line.
Another Ukrainian military intelligence agent was a former Ukrainian military, which was released from the army in 2025. She was ordered to collect information about aircraft and helicopters in the Transcarpathian region, as well as the protective systems of the military unit where she served.
The spies were already detained at the place of residence. Both were registered with suspicions in the framework of the second part of art. 111 (state betrayal committed in martial law). Criminal Code of Ukraine. They are threatened with life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
We recall that in early May, the SBU military counterintelligence detained an agent of Russia in the zone of military operations in the Kharkiv region. He was a contractor of one of the brigades of the Armed Forces, who worked in Russian military intelligence and “exhausted” the invaders of the location of the communication in which he served in the direction of Keryansk.
