Strong defense, freedom of energy and membership of the EU should be the basis of Ukraine’s peaceful future, convinced the President of the European Commission.
European Commission president Ursula Von der Lyain called on everything possible to strengthen Ukraine’s position to achieve a fair and long world. He said this on Wednesday during a performance at the European Parliament plenary meeting in Strasbourg, a report by Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday, May 7.
“A fair and long world can put the new era of prosperity for Ukraine and help us develop a new security architecture in Europe. A fair and long world that guarantees Ukraine sovereignty and respects territorial integrity and supports in European goals. under the areas of destruction.
Von Der Layen has appointed three top priorities, which, in his opinion, will help to achieve this goal: Support for the defense of Ukraine, a complete abandonment of Russia’s energy bearers and speeding up the Ukraine path to the EU.
Stopping in the first paragraph, he noted the need to implement the “porcupine strategy.”
“Russia is a constant threat to all Europe. Therefore, Ukraine must be strong enough to prevent any future attacks by destruction by opposition.”
The President recalled that the EU had already provided Ukraine military support for 50 billion euros. At the same time, he urged to move out of logic of help in the logic of integrating defense industries.
“We encourage our member states to place orders directly in the Ukraine defense industry, as it is the most effective and economical way to support Ukraine military efforts,” he emphasized, adding that the key elements here should be defense and change technologies.
Speaking of freedom of energy, Von Der Lyain recalled that revenues from fossil fuel remains the main source of Russian military’s military financing.
“At the beginning of the war, the EU spent 12 billion euros per month on Russia’s fossil fossil. Now we only spend 1.8 billion per month. So the main interest in the security field is the end of Putin’s military financing. And for this we should stop spending billions -billions of Russian energy imports.”
He announced the introduction of new steps, including the ban on the end of new contracts with the Russian Federation, a ban on imports by place markets from the end of 2025 and a complete decline in gas – pipeline and LNG – to the end of 2027. Russia’s “Shadow Fleet” control will also boost.
Von der Layen’s third priority is called the entry of Ukraine’s entry into the European Union.
“This will be the strongest guarantee of security,” he explained.
Earlier, Von der Layen emphasized that Europe should protect itself, as well as be careful so that Ukraine can defend itself.
