On the eve of the three leading forces of the ruling coalition did not vote on the issue of confidence in the government of Mario Draghi.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Mario Draghi. This was announced by the office of the head of state on Thursday, July 21.
“The President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, received today the Prime Minister of Italy, Mario Draghi, who, after discussing the situation after the vote in the Senate, passed the resignation of his government. The President of the Republic noted this, ordered the government to carry out the current duties,” said the statement. .
The night before, a new vote of confidence in the government was held in the Italian Senate. The majority voted in his favor: 95 of the 133 senators who took part in the vote. In total, 192 parliamentarians out of more than 300 were in the meeting room. But the three leading forces of the ruling coalition – the 5 Star Movement, as well as the center-right Forward, Italy and the League – did not vote.
Draghi also resigned last week, although the Senate expressed confidence in his cabinet. But since the 5 Star Movement party did not participate in the vote, the prime minister said the national majority was gone. However, the President did not accept Draghi’s resignation at the time.
