Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, signed the bill No. 12234, which provides for the payment of $ 15 million to the families of volunteers who died during the protection of Ukraine from February 24 to March 25, 2022.

The bill was developed at the initiative of the Ministry of Veterans to ensure the same approach to determining the amount of financial assistance to one for families of military personnel and for civilians:
- Earlier, the legislation was provided for for civilians who died, participating in the rejection of Russian aggression, providing one time of assistance in the amount of 1 million 860 thousand 750 UAH;
- At the same time, such a payment can be at least 15 million dollars for military personnel.
Families who have already received smaller payments for the death of a volunteer provide an addition, taking into account the previously paid amounts.
The law also determines the official basis for granting the status of family members of a defender or defender of Ukraine – a special certificate of direct participation in defense measures, which will be issued by the commander of the corresponding unit of security and defense forces.
The law will enter into force the day after his official publication.
