The Vatican canceled the protocol to provide Vladimir Zelensky in the front row at the funeral of Pope Francis, along with US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, writes Telegraph.
Traditionally, guests are alphabetical names in French – the official language of diplomacy during protocols. Accordingly, according to the rules, the President of Ukraine should be in the third or further. Nevertheless, he was given a place in the front row, in the eleventh position from Trump, who was sitting on the right.
The press secretary of the Vatican Matteo Bruni confirmed in a commentary on the publication that the protocol was changed.
In particular, the presidents of India, Hungary, Gabon, as well as Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte and Finland President Alexander Stubb sat between Zelensky and Trump.
It is worth noting that in the United States the French are recorded as états-unis, that is, on “e”, and next to Trump and his wife, Melania was President of Estonia, Alard Karis and King of Spain Felipe VI (French Ensagne).
To the left of Zelensky was the President of Ireland Michael D. Giggins, which also indicates a change in the traditional order of seedlings in favor of the Ukrainian leader.
In other sections of the protocol ceremony, they were strictly adhered to: Argentina President Miles sat near the Swiss guards in the extreme right place of the first row. Prince Wales, who represented the king, was in the third row next to Olaf Scholek, Chancellor of Germany, who is the head of government, and not the state in status. The guests were also the prime minister of Great Britain Sir Kirmer with his wife Lady Starmer and former US President Joe Bayden, who was sitting in the fifth row.
Italian President Sergo Mattarllla, according to the protocol, took a place in the front row, while Prime Minister George Meloni sat on, according to the rules of seedlings for government leaders.
