After a three -year silence, the United States conducted a direct communication with Russia, which allowed it to better understand its position, the State Secretary explained.
The United States of America hopes that Russia and Ukraine will reach an agreement this week, but the period is not final. State Secretary Marco Rubio said of this in an interview with The Free Press.
“I don’t know how the weekend is. I hope we can get to something fast. And I, as usual, hope we can do something because it’s a terrible war, and it has to end because it’s not a military decision,” Rubio said.
He added that Russia or Ukraine does not fully realize its military goals.
“Russia can not only pick up and get all of Ukraine. And Ukraine cannot bring them back, where they are until 2014,” the Secretary of State commented on the situation on the battlefield.
According to him, after a three -year silence, the United States will hold direct negotiations with Russia, which allows it to better understand its position.
“I will say that we are participating in understanding what Russia’s position is. Now we understand it better,” Rubio said.
At the same time, he added that it was necessary to clearly realize the position of Ukraine. However, he admitted that the parties could be too far from each other.

At the same time, the State Secretary assured that the United States will continue to strive to achieve a Truce, because, according to him, American authorities have spent “much time and effort at the highest level of government.”

The State Secretary emphasized that the United States was not a party that started the war, but is trying to contribute to its completion. According to him, the final decision does not depend on Washington.
Earlier, Rubio said the White House administration could leave efforts to reach peace in Ukraine if there were no signs that the agreement could be achieved in the near future.
