The participation of North Korea in the Russian war against Ukraine brought the economy of more than $ 20 billion and helps Pyongyang buy even higher weapons.
This is indicated in the corresponding report of the South Korean Analytical Center of the Korean Institute of Defense Analysis (KIDA), reports Newsweek.
The KIDA report says that most of the economic benefits of North Korea received from the supply of ammunition to Russia, but she also won from sending thousands of soldiers to the war against Ukraine and providing technical support.
The losses of troops, however, were significant, and it is believed that about 4 thousand out of 11 thousand troops who were sent by North Korea were killed. They mainly fought in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
It is noted that North Korea probably prefers “natural and technical assistance” by Russia in exchange for support provided to them, including weapons with high technologies that helps strengthen its military potential.
The authors of the report emphasize that there is an urgent need to stop the war in Ukraine and the blocking of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, as well as in the long -term response strategy after the termination of the conflict.
The KIDA report is a resonance with a separate analysis of the OSC (OSC) center and Reuters agencies, which calculated that North Korea sent more than 15.8 thousand ammunition containers to Russia from August 2023 to March 2025.
Using satellite images and detailed three -dimensional images, OSC and Reuters calculated that 64 cargo sent by four Russian courts was probably delivered from 4.2 to 5.8 million separate ammunition from North Korea.
