The best choice for the European Union and the USA will be a free trade deal. But it is necessary to prepare “spare airports” in case Trump’s decision is different.

German future Chancellor Friedrich Mertz believes the world economy can expect a financial crisis because of US President Donald Trump. In his opinion, countries in the European Union should prepare for possible problems. Merts said this in an interview with Handelsblatt.

At the same time, Mertz supports the conclusion of a free trade agreement between the United States and European countries.

“Yes, I hope for a new transatlantic free trade agreement. Zero tariffs for everyone. It’s better for both parties,” he said.

At the same time, the future Chancellor believes that the European Union will need to focus on the markets of the third countries if Washington wants to fully exit trade in the world.

“President Trump’s policy increases the risk that the next financial crisis will take place earlier than expected. We, europeans, should provide a convincing answer,” Mertz said.

Remember, China suggested that the EU unite against Trump. The total relationship with China’s trade and the EU forms more than one third of the world’s general trade.
