The World Health Organization has informed the public about another outbreak of coronavirus in the European part of the continent.
A new wave of coronavirus has started in Europe, caused by Omicron-coronavirus variants. This was stated by the head of the European Bureau of the World Health Organization (WHO) Hans Kluge, the report of the organization’s website on Tuesday, July 19.
“At this time last year, the WHO EDB was talking about a new wave of COVID-19 that hit the entire region and caused the Delta variant amid the removal of restrictions and increasing social contacts. It is clear now that we are in a situation similar to last summer, ”he said.
The continuous wave of COVID-19 in this instance is spread by a variant of the Omicron coronavirus, specifically BA.2 and BA.5, where each dominant line shows clear transmission advantages than to previously circulating viruses, he said.
“With the increase in cases, we are also seeing an increase in hospitals, which will increase as schools reopen, people returning from holidays, which means social contacts will become more frequent,” Kluge said. .
Europe has seen an increase in new cases of COVID-19 over the past six weeks, according to the WHO. Nearly three million new cases were recorded last week. This makes up almost half of all new cases worldwide.
Recall that the Ministry of Health of Ukraine is potentially preparing for a new wave of growth in the number of COVID-19 cases.
Earlier, the World Health Organization predicted that in the next two months in Europe the number of patients infected with coronavirus will increase.
