How should the national currency should be changed in order to “talk” not about the past, but about the present and the future? What are the meanings of the Ukrainian hryvnia about the values of our country and the historical events that we experience? The National Bank proposes to start thinking about this, ”said the chairman of the board of directors of NBU in the column“ Historical Truth ”.
He recalled that the current design of the HryVnia banknote was approved in 1992.

He also said that “starting with symbols and values in the design of banknotes, we do not invent a bicycle.” In his opinion, this is a normal evolutionary process for any state, and in the European Union for the third time, since the appearance of the Euro -banknote in 2002 they plan to change their design.
In October 2024, the National Bank developed and submitted to Verkhovna Radov a package of draft laws on changing the name of the exchange coin of Ukraine from Penny to a step.
