The head of state spoke about this in his evening address to the nation on July 18.
And one more important news about the Security Service of Ukraine. There is a personnel audit of the Service. The issue of dismissal of twenty-eight officials is being decided. Different levels, different directions. But the reasons are similar – unsatisfactory results of the work,” Zelensky said.
On July 17, the President of Ukraine dismissed Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova and the head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov because of “hundreds of criminal cases on treason and collaboration activities of prosecutors, pre-trial investigations and other law enforcement agencies.” On July 18, Zelensky submitted to the Rada a resolution on the dismissal of Bakanov, his childhood friend.
Andrei Smirnov, deputy head of the President’s Office, explained that Bakanov and Venediktova had not yet been fired. They were eliminated so that they could not influence the investigation and identification of traitors to the SBU and the prosecutor’s office. In addition, internal investigations will be carried out in these bodies, and based on their results, the president will decide whether to apply to parliament to dismiss both officials.
So far, the duties of the head of the SBU are First Deputy Malysh, who, according to media reports, is close to the Deputy Head of the President’s Office Oleg Tatarov and walked at his birthday party in August 2021.
