Ukrainian journalists and media, media participants, call on the power to exchange the detained Russian agent, propagandist Kirill Molchanov for Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Haluk, who has been in Russian captivity for more than three years.
This is indicated in the application of the media, which, in particular, signed the Institute of Media.
The statement states that Dmitry Hiluk stole Russians on March 3, 2022 during the occupation of part of the Kyiv region. Now he is probably in one of the colonies of the Vladimir region of Russia.
Ukraine has only unofficial information about the maintenance of a journalist, because Russia does not recognize the fact of its captivity. This is due to the fact that international humanitarian law prohibits ownership of civilians. Accordingly, there is no mechanism for exchanging such people – they must be released from the exchange, the statement said.
In the summer of 2024, it became known that Dmitry is very thin and weighs no more than 45 kg. Military games released from Russian captivity, which spent a year with Dmitry in the same chamber in the region of Vladimir in Russia, was told by the international organization “Journalists without Borders.”
At the same time, on April 1, 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine said that Kirill Molchanov is a Russian agent and a “political expert” from the media pool of the suspect in the state by the betrayal of the former People’s Deputy Viktor Medvedchuk. According to SBU, in 2022, Molchanov went to Russia, where he became one of the key ideologists of the Kremlin’s media. He was detained during a trip to Poland and deported to Ukraine.
Since Ukraine already has experience in exchanging civilians in the interests of the state, the same Viktor Medvedchuk was exchanged for 215 captured Ukrainian defenders and defenders – the media is called the president of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communication of Ukraine, and the coordination. Exchangeing the suspect in Molchanov’s cooperation.
According to the Institute of Media, Russia illegally holds at least 30 civilian Ukrainian media.
